In-Woods Site Disturbance Workshop

Logging contractors, field supervisors and foreman, woodlot owners, government officials and company woodlands staff will alll find this workshop of interest and applicable to their day to day activities.

As part of a series of technology road shows conducted by FPInnovations-Feric Division, join us for some interesting and practical information on how to minimize soil and site disturbance during forest operations.

The inside program starts at 8:30 am, followed by a field visit to a recent harvest block, finishing up at approximately 12:00 pm (lunch on your own). Participants will be asked to provide their own transportation to the field site (car pool). Please note: personal protective equipment will be required on site.

⇒ Workshop objectives:

  • Understand the importance of protecting forest soils
  • Become familiar with operating best practices and harvesting equipment configurations that can reduce soil disturbance.

⇒ The workshop will cover practical topics such as:

  • How can harvesting activities damage forest soils
  • Rutting versus compaction, what's the difference
  • Best practices to prevent soil disturbance for harvest planning and operations
  • Review of operational tools and equipment considerations that can help reduce soil disturbance
