Sponsored by FPInnovation and the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre

Attention resource managers, woodlands personnel, contractors, truckers
and all those involved in the forest Industry!

"It's All About WOOD!"

Come hear how new innovations in the wood products sector will revolutionize
the next generation of building and living systems
.

Softwood Structural and Finished Products

Canada is internationally recognized as being a world leader in the development of engineered wood products. Our industry has developed production techniques worthy of large manufacturing sectors and our engineered wood products adapt easily to our construction techniques. Wood seems more than ever able to make major openings in constructing multi-storey buildings in the non-residential and multi-unit sectors.

Gerald Beaulieu, Manager of Value Added Products, FPInnovations, will describe the evolution of engineered wood products by illustrating their utilization in large scale projects and through the use of novel construction techniques. He will also share knowledge of the innovative softwood 'appearance' products that have been used to create a comfortable living environment for many years. The presentation will provide an overview of the main softwood 'appearance' products on the North American market and highlight some niche products that have potential to increase their market share in the future.

NEWBuildS (Network for Engineered Wood-based Building Systems)

"Although wood is one of the most common and oldest structural materials, its use has been limited to low-rise (less than 4 storeys) residential construction in many parts of the world.

Dr. Meng Gong of the Wood Science and Technology Centre at UNB is leading a new consortium called "NEWBuildS", consisting of 40 researchers from nine universities across Canada and who will focus on innovative wood products and building systems.

Dr. Gong will present the reasons why wood is attracting the attention of architects and engineers, the NEWBuildS research program and the expected results an impacts that the research will make in increasing the use of wood in multi-storey buildings both in North America and in overseas market."
