2021 Atlantic Teachers’ Tour ‘Virtual Edition’
The ‘Virtual Edition’ of the Forests Worth Knowing, Atlantic Teachers Tour, is a unique Professional Development opportunity for Teachers and Guidance/Career Counselors to learn about forests and the people who work in the forestry sector every day.
In addition to everyone getting to know each other, day one will introduce the Forest Regions of Canada with special focus on Atlantic Canada and what makes the region unique and the significance of the forest sector in each province in relation to flora and fauna, forest products industry, land ownership, history etc.
The focus for the second morning will introduce the many benefits of a healthy, sustainable managed forest resource including ecosystem services, advancements in resource optimization and value-added, and how different forest products that we use daily are made here in Atlantic Canada.
We’ll hit the ground running on Day three focusing on the importance of forest management planning using the latest technologies, and how that is applied on the ground through harvesting and silviculture best practices along with hearing from some of the folks on the ground responsible to manage our renewable forest resources. Day three will also feature presentations on mitigating climate change and species at risk.
Day Four is all about opportunities and informing you of the breadth of careers that are available in the forest industry and the post-secondary training and education programs that are offered right here in the region. We’ll also introduce the Forests Worth Knowing Outreach Program which includes a long list of resources that are available to you and how to integrate them into your classroom.
Free for teachers; tour costs are covered by our sponsors. We only ask for your time and input.
