Transformation of Northern Pulp
The closure of the Northern Pulp Kraft Mill in January 2020 eliminated the primary market for sawmill residuals and pulpwood in Nova Scotia. Some of the impacts from the closure have been masked and deferred by the unprecedented markets for lumber and building materials. However, there have been significant changes in fibre flows, downsizing of the workforce, stumpage values for landowners, forest management, and significantly reduced revenues across the entire fiber supply chain.
Northern Pulp and their parent company, Paper Excellence, remain committed to continuing business in Nova Scotia as a key member of a sustainable forest sector. The Canadian Woodlands Forum and Forest Nova Scotia would like to invite you to an upcoming webinar on July 13th as Dale Paterson from Northern Pulp outlines their “new vision” towards renewing operations with their ambitious plans for a ‘best-in-class’ facility in Abercrombie.
