The 25th Annual Envirothon NB Competition, held May 4–5, 2025, marked an exciting milestone in youth environmental education and leadership. Hosted at Mount Allison University with field testing at Mapleton Park, the event welcomed ten teams from New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, strengthening collaboration and shared learning across Atlantic Canada.

In preparation for the competition, students participated in three hands-on workshops earlier in the season. Led by natural resource professionals, these sessions brought teams together to learn directly from experts in forestry, wildlife, soils, aquatics, and climate-focused resource management. These workshops played a key role in building confidence, knowledge, and teamwork ahead of the provincial event.

This year’s competition theme, “Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change,” challenged students to apply critical thinking, technical skills, and collaborative problem-solving as they completed field tests and delivered climate-related scenario presentations.

A standout achievement came from Stanley Consolidated School, who earned top placement in forestry, soils, wildlife, and oral presentation, along with second place in aquatics—earning them the title of Provincial Champions. The team went on to represent New Brunswick at the NCF-Envirothon international competition in Calgary, Alberta, where they explored glacial watersheds in Banff, studied soil horizons, visited the Drumheller Badlands, and connected with peers from across North America and China. Their experience also included meaningful cultural learning opportunities guided by Indigenous Elders, hands-on field training, and collaborative activities.

The NB team shared their appreciation for the many supporters—including local organizations and the Canadian Woodlands Forum—who helped make their participation possible. They return motivated and ready to apply what they’ve learned as they prepare for the 2026 competition season.

Another exciting advancement for the program is the launch of the newly redesigned bilingual website: EnvirothonNB.ca. The platform will continue to grow, offering competition details, study resources, activities, and videos to support educators and students year-round.

As we celebrate 25 years of Envirothon NB, we extend our sincere gratitude to the students, educators, professionals, sponsors, and volunteers who continue to build a strong foundation for environmental leadership. The next chapter begins with even greater momentum. Looking forward to 2026!
