On October 8 & 9, 2025, the Canadian Woodlands Forum hosted the 2025 Fall Meeting – “Seedling to Success: Sustaining Timber Production in the HPF Management Zone of the Triad Model” in Truro, Nova Scotia.

In collaboration with our valued partners — Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, BioApplied Innovation Pathways, Forest Nova Scotia, The Association for Sustainable Forestry, and with special thanks to Domtar for the field tour contributions — the event brought together over 135 forestry professionals from across the region for two days of learning, connection, and inspiration.

Day Two – In the Woods

Day two took attendees to Debert for a hands-on Field Tour exploring High Production Forestry (HPF) in action. Participants visited four diverse sites — from a 44-year-old Norway Spruce plantation showcasing growth potential and management outcomes, to a 21-year-old Red Spruce stand that focussed on current stocking and stand conditions.

Participants also explored an 8-year-old White Spruce progeny test, discussing silviculture and site preparation lessons, and concluded with a look at a recently harvested site being prepared for a new Red Spruce plantation, complete with an equipment demonstration.

The tour provided valuable information and discussion into how planning, genetics, and silviculture practices come together to achieve sustainable, high-yield forestry in Nova Scotia.
