Over the past year, the Canadian Woodlands Forum (CWF) has continued to strengthen its role as a trusted partner and contributor within the forest sector by actively engaging with key stakeholder organizations at the regional and national levels. Through representation, collaboration, and leadership, CWF has ensured that the perspectives of on-the-ground forestry professionals—and the importance of workforce development and youth engagement—remain central to sector discussions.

A notable highlight was CWF’s participation in the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers (CCFM) and Forum on Forests, held June 15 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, and chaired by the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture and Minister of Labrador Affairs. Executive Director Becky Geneau was invited to present an overview of CWF programs, with a particular focus on youth outreach through the Atlantic Teachers’ Tour and Envirothon. The Forests on Forum brought together national Indigenous representatives, industry partners, government and experts to explore critical issues such as building successful partnerships between Indigenous peoples, industry, and governments; wildfire prevention and mitigation; international market access; and maintaining relevance with young people considering careers in the forest sector.

CWF also maintained an active governance presence through its involvement with the Maritime College of Forest Technology Board of Governors. Quarterly Board of Governors meetings and Governance Committee meetings were attended in July, September, October, and December, ensuring continuity, informed decision-making, and alignment with broader sector priorities.

In support of sustainability leadership and collaboration, CWF continued its role as SFI Atlantic SIC Coordinator, providing additional project management and administrative services to the committee and its subcommittees. In addition, CWF is working closely with the committee on the redesign of the AtlanticSFI.ca website, strengthening communications and accessibility for stakeholders across the region.

Expanding its economic and regional development engagement, CWF welcomed Becky Geneau’s appointment to the Nova Scotia Economic Task Force Board as of October 30. Participation in the Board meeting in Truro marked the beginning of a new opportunity to collaborate with Chair Harvey Gray and fellow Board members on initiatives that support economic resilience and growth in the province.

Finally, CWF’s outreach efforts were showcased at the Nova Scotia Forestry Town Hall on November 12, 2025, in Bridgewater. Becky Geneau presented updates on CWF programming, including the Atlantic Teachers’ Tour and Envirothon. The session highlighted strong community support, including engagement from Envirothon alumni, and resulted in new connections.

Collectively, these activities reflect CWF’s continued commitment to collaboration, leadership, and meaningful engagement with stakeholders—ensuring the forest sector remains connected, forward-looking, and well positioned for the future.
